As part of our sustainable urban living project, we decided to experiment with growing shiitake mushrooms at home. Shiitake mushrooms are a popular ingredient in many Asian dishes, and they have a range of health benefits, including being rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
To get started, we created a substrate from wood shavings and wheat bran. We then added the shiitake spores into starter kits and hung them in a garage at home. While they have not started fruiting yet, we’re excited to see what the future holds for this project.
Growing your own shiitake mushrooms at home is not only a fun experiment, but it’s also a great way to reduce your carbon footprint and support sustainable living. By growing your own mushrooms, you can avoid buying them from the store, which often involves a lot of packaging and transportation.
We’re looking forward to sharing more updates on our shiitake mushroom growing project in the future. Stay tuned!”
