Exploring the therapeutic potential of San Pedro cactus

San Pedro cactus has been used for thousands of years in traditional South American medicine and shamanic practices. It contains mescaline, a psychoactive compound that can produce profound spiritual and introspective experiences.

As part of our ongoing research into plant medicine and mental health, we recently conducted an experiment with San Pedro cactus. We harvested the cactus and made a tea, which two of our SOUL members drank during a guided spiritual retreat.

We conducted this experiment in a safe and supervised setting, with the guidance of a healer and the director of the healing centre. During our retreat, we experienced deep insights and connections to nature, which we believe have the potential to be therapeutic for mental health.

While plant medicines like San Pedro cactus can be powerful tools for mental health, it is important to approach their use with respect and caution. Proper guidance and supervision are essential to ensure that the experience is safe and therapeutic, and to honor the cultural traditions that surround the plant.

As a clinician, researcher in the addiction care space and university lecturer in Family Medicine and Primary Healthcare, I am committed to exploring the potential therapeutic benefits of plant medicines like San Pedro cactus. Our research into this area is ongoing, and we believe that our findings could have significant implications for mental health treatment.

Stay tuned for more updates on our experiments and their potential therapeutic applications in the field of mental health.”
